Center for assistance to Prisoners of War and their family members
The goal of the project is to establish guardianship over every family of prisoners of war, civilians and non-combatants who were captured by the russian federation
To date, more than 8,000 prisoners of war are held captive by the russian federation. Another 2,000 thousand civilians and non-combatants (persons who do not fight but serve the army - volunteers, doctors, cooks). Their families are looked after by various organizations. But the aid is non-systematic in nature.
Problems: regarding prisoners
- "Prisoner of war" status. Without legal status, the family cannot receive assistance (payments) from the state. A lot of prisoners of war in the registers are listed as "disappeared". In order to grant them status, it is necessary to: find a person and go through a series of unpleasant bureaucratic red tape.
- Payments. Even with confirmation that the military is in captivity, getting help is a quest.
- Civilians, non-combatants who were captured do not have the legal status defined by the laws of Ukraine, and their families do not have the right to state assistance and payments.
- Political prisoners and prisoners since 2014. Most of them have completely ceased to mention and work on the exchange.
regarding family members of prisoners
- Families who have moved to other regions of Ukraine or abroad have problems in registering statuses, payments, and receiving international and state aid.
- Even in case of receiving financial support from the state, the family is still in a depressed state. They feel abandoned and need attention: counseling with a psychotherapist, help with children.
- Many families need medical assistance, especially when there are disabled and elderly people in the family.
- Education for children of prisoners of war.
common problem
Medianess. The topic is raised sporadically and unsystematically.
To solve these problems, the Center for Helping Prisoners of War and Their Family Members was created
The Center provides assistance in the following areas:
- Legal consultations and legal assistance in obtaining status and monetary payments. Our lawyers accompany families, help fill out documents, send them, communicate with state authorities.
- Psychological assistance. We provide support and assistance both to individual family members and to the family as a whole.
- Media component. We regularly raise this topic: interviews, work reports, communication with representatives of other countries, collaborations with initiative groups dealing with the topic of prisoners of war. Constant reminders of those who haven't returned yet: 2014-present.
- Humanitarian aid to families of prisoners of war.
- Education. Search for grants for the education of children of prisoners of war. Cooperation with Ukrainian and foreign educational institutions that will be able to offer free training, educational camps abroad, holiday language and other programs.
